How to Choose the Right Amazon Black E-Reader
-
Decide on Screen Size
You should choose between a 6-inch or 7-inch display based on your portability needs. The standard 6-inch models measure 6.21 inches in length and weigh 5.57 ounces, making them ideal for one-handed use. If you prefer more reading space, the 7-inch Paperwhite and Colorsoft models are approximately 6.96 inches long. These larger screens provide better text clarity but add about two ounces to the weight. Select the size that fits comfortably in your hand during long reading sessions.
-
Check Storage Capacity
Most models in this list offer 16GB of storage, which is sufficient for thousands of books. However, if you store many high-resolution comics or magazines, you might need more space. The Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition provides 32GB of storage to accommodate larger file sizes. This extra capacity ensures you do not run out of room for your library. For most readers, 16GB is adequate, but verify your collection size before purchasing.
-
Consider Color vs. Black and White
You need to decide if color visuals matter for your reading experience. The Kindle Colorsoft models feature a color display, which enhances covers and illustrated content. These devices measure 5.02 inches wide and weigh 7.52 ounces. If you only read text-based novels, the standard black-and-white screens are sufficient and often more power-efficient. Choose the color display only if you frequently view graphic novels or color-enhanced materials.
-
Evaluate Weight and Dimensions
Portability depends heavily on the device weight and physical dimensions. The lightest option is the standard Kindle at 5.57 ounces, with a width of 4.27 inches. Heavier models like the Paperwhite and Colorsoft weigh between 7.2 and 7.52 ounces. The width increases to 5.02 inches for the 7-inch screens. If you carry your reader in a pocket or small bag, the lighter 6-inch models are easier to manage for extended periods.
-
Look for Special Features
Some models include additional features like wireless charging or waterproofing. The Signature Edition supports wireless charging for convenient power replenishment. Several Paperwhite and Colorsoft models offer waterproof protection for reading near pools or in the bath. These features add convenience but may affect the overall weight and price. Check if you need these specific capabilities or if standard charging is sufficient for your daily routine.
