How to choose the right one
-
Check RAM for apps
Random Access Memory determines how smoothly Android apps run on your device. Higher RAM allows for faster switching between reading and web browsing. The top pick includes 4GB of RAM, which supports multitasking without lag. Budget models often have less memory, which may slow down app performance. If you plan to use third-party apps frequently, prioritize devices with at least 4GB. This ensures a responsive experience when loading pages or opening documents.
-
Evaluate storage capacity
Internal storage holds your books, apps, and downloaded content. Models range from 32GB to 256GB depending on your needs. The premium option offers 256GB, ideal for users who download many large files or install numerous apps. Most standard models provide 32GB or 64GB, which suffices for typical reading libraries. Consider how many high-resolution color images you store. Larger capacity prevents running out of space for your expanding digital collection.
-
Decide on color display
E-ink screens come in monochrome or color variants. Color displays enhance comics, magazines, and illustrated books with vivid visuals. Monochrome screens offer sharper text contrast and faster refresh rates. The best budget pick features a color screen for smart app users. If you only read text-heavy novels, a black-and-white model may be more practical. Color devices generally cost more and may have slightly slower page turns. Choose based on whether visual richness or text clarity matters most to you.
-
Verify connectivity options
Connectivity affects how you update books and apps. Most models rely on Wi-Fi for wireless transfers. One premium model includes 4G capability for standalone internet access. This allows you to download content without needing a Wi-Fi connection. If you travel often or prefer not to connect to public networks, 4G is useful. Otherwise, Wi-Fi is sufficient for home use. Check the specs to see if cellular data is included, as it impacts device versatility and cost.
-
Assess physical dimensions
Screen size and weight impact portability. Most Bigme models feature a 6-inch display, balancing readability and pocketability. The HiBreakS model is slightly smaller at 5.84 inches, fitting easily into small bags. Dimensions vary slightly, with widths around 3.94 inches and heights near 5.5 inches. Weight stays under 7 ounces for most devices, ensuring comfortable handheld reading. Measure your preferred carrying case size. A compact form factor is best for commuters, while larger screens suit stationary reading.
