Comparing Shell Cover Alternatives
PocketBook Era 7-Inch Auto-Sleep Shell Cover
This black shell cover also targets the PocketBook Era, but it swaps the blue exterior for a black finish. The dimensions shift slightly, measuring 7.09 by 7.05 inches with a height of 5.59 inches, compared to the original’s 6.23 by 5.45 inch footprint. It weighs 4.59 ounces, which is nearly identical to the original’s 4.55 ounces. Both models feature auto sleep and wake functionality. You might choose this alternative if you prefer a black aesthetic or need the slightly different physical profile. It offers the same core protection and lightweight design without adding bulk to your reading device.
Kepuch Kobo Elipsa 2E 10.3" Hard Shell Case
This option is designed for a much larger 10.3-inch screen, the Kobo Elipsa 2E, rather than the 7-inch PocketBook Era. It measures 9.45 by 7.87 inches with a slim 0.43-inch height. The material is listed as PU leather in blue. It lacks the specific auto sleep features found in the PocketBook covers because it is built for a tablet, not an e-ink reader. You should pick this if you own a 10.3-inch Kobo device and need rigid, slim protection. It is not compatible with the PocketBook Era due to the significant size difference. It provides durable coverage for a larger screen format.
NAWVNMI Kindle Paperwhite 11th Gen TPU Folio Cover
This case is made for the Kindle Paperwhite 11th Generation, which has an 8-inch screen size listed in its attributes. It is constructed from TPU material and offers shockproof protection. The original PocketBook cover is a simple shell for a 7-inch device, while this is a folio style for a different ecosystem. It does not fit the PocketBook Era. You would choose this if you own a Kindle Paperwhite and need scratch resistance with auto sleep features. It is not a direct alternative for PocketBook users. The material and form factor are tailored specifically for Amazon’s e-reader hardware and screen dimensions.
WALNEW 6-7" Universal Waterproof Case
This is a waterproof pouch designed for 6 to 7-inch e-readers. It weighs only 2.2 ounces, making it lighter than the original 4.55-ounce shell. The dimensions are 7.87 by 5.91 inches with a height of 0.79 inches. It features a blue color and is built for water resistance, unlike the standard protective shell of the original. You should pick this if you plan to read near pools or beaches. It sacrifices the slim, precise fit and auto sleep functionality for rugged waterproofing. It is a practical choice for outdoor use where liquid exposure is a concern.
PocketBook 6-Inch Shell Case
This shell case is intended for 6-inch PocketBook e-readers, not the 7-inch Era model. It weighs 3.77 ounces, which is lighter than the original. The dimensions are 7.48 by 5.16 inches with a height of 0.71 inches. It is black and includes auto sleep and wake features. It is not compatible with the PocketBook Era due to the screen size difference. You might consider this if you have a smaller 6-inch PocketBook device and want a lightweight, travel-friendly cover. It offers similar protective qualities and functionality but is sized for a different generation of PocketBook hardware.
MoKo 6.8" Kindle Paperwhite Case
This case is designed for the 6.8-inch Kindle Paperwhite. It weighs 5.45 ounces, which is heavier than the original 4.55-ounce shell. The dimensions are 7.17 by 5.28 inches with a height of 0.55 inches. It features a floral pattern and includes auto sleep and wake functions. It is made for a different device ecosystem. You should choose this if you own a Kindle Paperwhite and want a slim profile with a hand strap for one-handed reading. It does not fit the PocketBook Era. The added weight and specific design cater to Kindle users who prioritize portability and secure handling.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use a generic 7-inch e-reader case for my PocketBook Era?
Generic cases often lack the precise fit required for specific devices like the PocketBook Era. The official shell cover measures 6.23 by 5.45 inches to match the device exactly. Using a non-specific case may leave ports exposed or prevent the auto-sleep function from working correctly. You should look for a case designed specifically for your model to ensure proper protection and functionality.
What are the best alternatives if I need waterproof protection?
If you require waterproofing, the WALNEW Universal Waterproof Case is a practical option. It is designed for 6 to 7-inch e-readers and offers solid protection for use at the pool or beach. This blue pouch weighs 2.2 ounces and measures 7.87 by 5.91 inches. It provides a rugged barrier against water, unlike standard hard shell covers that only offer scratch resistance.
Does the auto-sleep feature work with third-party shell covers?
Many third-party covers include auto-sleep and wake features that align with your device. For example, the NAWVNMI TPU Folio Cover for the Kindle Paperwhite includes this function. Similarly, the Kepuch hard shell case for the Kobo Elipsa 2E is designed for specific devices. You should verify that the case is made for your specific e-reader model to ensure the magnetic or sensor alignment works properly.
Are hard shell cases better than soft TPU covers?
Hard shell cases offer rigid protection, while TPU covers provide flexibility and shock absorption. The Kepuch case for the Kobo Elipsa 2E is a rigid blue shell made for durability. In contrast, the NAWVNMI cover for the Kindle Paperwhite uses TPU material for scratch resistance. Your choice depends on whether you prefer a stiff, protective exterior or a flexible, shockproof fit for your device.
Is there a case option for 6-inch PocketBook e-readers?
Yes, the PocketBook 6-Inch Shell Case is available for smaller devices. This black case features auto sleep and wake capabilities and is designed for travel use. It weighs 3.77 ounces and measures 7.48 by 5.16 inches. If you have a 6-inch PocketBook e-reader, this specific shell provides a lightweight and protective solution tailored to that screen size.
What is the lightest shell cover available for e-readers?
The WALNEW Waterproof Case is one of the lightest options, weighing only 2.2 ounces. It is designed for 7-inch screens and offers waterproof protection. The PocketBook 6-Inch Shell Case is also lightweight at 3.77 ounces. These options are ideal if you prioritize portability and want to add minimal bulk to your e-reader while traveling or reading on the go.
