How Each Alternative Compares
Amazon Kindle 6-Inch 16GB E-Reader
This 6-inch Kindle drops the color display for a smaller, lighter form factor. It measures 6.21 inches long and weighs 5.57 ounces, making it more portable than the 7-inch Colorsoft. You give up the adjustable warm light and color visuals, but you gain a device that fits easily in one hand. The 16GB storage matches the original, so you can store plenty of books. This model suits you if you prioritize compact size and battery life over screen real estate and color content. It is a solid choice for text-heavy readers who do not need the larger canvas.
Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 6.8" 16 GB
The Paperwhite 6.8-inch model offers a slightly smaller screen than the 7-inch Colorsoft but retains the waterproof feature. It weighs 7.2 ounces and measures 6.85 inches long. You sacrifice the color display and adjustable warm light found in the Colorsoft. However, you get a reliable black-and-white e-reader with excellent battery life. The 16GB storage capacity is identical to the original. This device is ideal for readers who want a waterproof e-reader with a screen size closer to standard models. It fits those who prefer monochrome text and do not require color illustrations or covers.
Amazon Kindle 6-Inch 16 GB (Refurbished)
This refurbished 6-inch Kindle shares the same physical dimensions and weight as the standard 6-inch model. It measures 6.21 inches long and weighs 5.57 ounces. You lose the color display, warm light adjustment, and the 7-inch screen size of the original. The 16GB storage remains the same. This option is best for budget-conscious readers who want a portable, black-and-white device. It is suitable for those who prioritize portability and basic reading functions over premium features like color and adjustable lighting. The compact size makes it easy to carry, though it lacks the visual enhancements of the Colorsoft.
Amazon Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition 32GB
The Signature Edition 32GB model keeps the 7-inch color display and adjustable warm light but doubles your storage. It weighs 7.69 ounces and measures 6.96 inches long, slightly heavier than the standard Colorsoft. You gain 32GB of storage, which is useful for large libraries or audiobooks. It also supports wireless charging, adding convenience. This model is perfect for readers who want the full Colorsoft experience but need more space for content. It is a practical pick for those who do not mind a slightly heavier device or buying a separate charging dock for the wireless feature.
Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 7-Inch 16GB
The 7-inch Paperwhite matches the Colorsoft's screen size but uses a black-and-white display. It weighs 7.44 ounces and measures 6.96 inches long. You give up the color visuals and adjustable warm light, but you get a larger, brighter monochrome screen. The 16GB storage is the same as the original. This device is ideal for readers who want a larger display without the cost or complexity of color. It is suitable for those who prioritize battery endurance and water resistance over color content. The larger screen provides more reading space, though it lacks the vibrant visuals of the Colorsoft.
Kobo Clara BW 6-Inch Waterproof E-Reader
The Kobo Clara BW is a 6-inch black-and-white e-reader that weighs 6.14 ounces. It measures 6.26 inches long, making it lighter than the Colorsoft. You lose the color display, warm light, and 7-inch screen. However, you gain audiobook support and waterproof durability. The 16GB storage is identical to the original. This model is best for readers who want a portable, eye-friendly device with audio capabilities. It fits those who prefer a different ecosystem and do not need color visuals.
