Amazon Kindle Colorsoft Kids (16GB) Alternatives: 6 Similar Picks Compared

How Each Alternative Compares

Amazon Kindle Paperwhite Kids 16GB Essentials Bundle

The Kindle Paperwhite Kids 16GB Essentials Bundle drops the color display found in the Colorsoft model, sticking to a glare-free black-and-white screen. This keeps the focus strictly on text rather than vibrant illustrations. It retains the 16GB storage capacity and the durable, kid-friendly design with a 2-year worry-free guarantee. You get a 7-inch screen, which is slightly larger than the 6-inch base model but similar in height to the Colorsoft. If your child prefers classic e-ink readability over colorful comics, this bundle offers a solid, distraction-free reading experience with the same parental controls and waterproof protection.

Amazon Kindle Colorsoft Kids 16GB Bundle

This variant shares the same Colorsoft display technology as the original, delivering vibrant color for book covers and illustrations. It also features 16GB of storage for a large library. The main difference lies in the bundle contents and the specific cover design, which is Starlight Reading instead of Fantasy River. Like the original, it excludes apps and videos to keep children focused on reading. It includes the same 2-year worry-free guarantee and parental controls via the Parent Dashboard. If you prefer the Starlight Reading aesthetic or want a different bundle configuration, this pick offers identical display performance and storage for young readers who enjoy color.

Amazon Kindle Kids 6-Inch 16GB

The Kindle Kids 6-Inch 16GB model is a compact, monochrome device that lacks the Colorsoft display. It uses a black-and-white screen, which is ideal for text-heavy books but does not show vibrant illustrations. It is slightly smaller and lighter than the Colorsoft, measuring 4.27 by 6.21 inches and weighing 5.57 ounces. It still offers 16GB of storage and the same 2-year worry-free guarantee. The design is built for durability with a kid-friendly case. If your child needs a smaller, more portable device for basic reading without the need for color graphics, this budget-friendly option provides essential features in a more compact form factor.

Amazon Kindle Paperwhite Kids 7-Inch

The Kindle Paperwhite Kids 7-Inch features a larger 7-inch display compared to the Colorsoft Kids, offering more screen real estate for reading. It uses a black-and-white e-ink screen rather than the Colorsoft’s color display. It maintains 16GB of storage and includes the same waterproof design and 2-year worry-free guarantee. The device is designed to be distraction-free, with no apps or games. It is slightly heavier and thicker than the Colorsoft model. If you prioritize a larger screen size for older children who may benefit from more space for text, this model provides a durable, focused reading experience without the color features of the Colorsoft.

Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 7" Leather Bundle

The Kindle Paperwhite 7" Leather Bundle targets older readers or adults rather than young children. It features a 7-inch black-and-white display and includes a plant-based leather cover. It offers 16GB of storage and a waterproof design. Unlike the Colorsoft Kids, it does not include Amazon Kids+ or the same parental control features designed for children aged 3-12. It lacks the kid-friendly cover and worry-free guarantee tailored for young users. If you are looking for a premium reading experience with a protective leather case and do not need color displays or child-specific content management, this bundle provides a sophisticated, distraction-free reading environment.

XP-Pen 10.95-Inch Paper-Like Android Tablet

The XP-Pen 10.95-Inch Android Tablet is fundamentally different, running Android instead of a dedicated e-reader OS. It features a large 10.95-inch color screen, which is significantly larger than the Kindle’s displays. It offers 128GB of storage, far exceeding the Kindle’s 16GB. This device supports Android apps, making it suitable for note-taking, meetings, and study rather than passive e-ink reading. It is heavier and thicker, designed for active use rather than portable, distraction-free reading. If you need a tablet for interactive tasks, app usage, and large color displays, this option provides versatility that the Kindle Colorsoft Kids cannot match.
