Comparing alternatives to the Kindle Colorsoft Kids
GOWENIC 7-Inch Kids Color E-Reader
The GOWENIC 7-Inch Kids Color E-Reader offers a larger 7-inch display compared to the Kindle Colorsoft Kids. It includes physical navigation keys, which some children find easier to use than touchscreens. This model supports multimedia features, adding video and audio content beyond simple reading. It maintains 16GB of storage, matching the original. However, it lacks the waterproof rating and the specific Paperlike color technology of the Kindle. If you prefer physical buttons and want a screen that handles more than just books, this is a practical choice. It sacrifices the premium build quality and dedicated parental dashboard for a more budget-friendly, feature-rich package.
Amazon Kindle 6-Inch 16GB E-Reader
The Amazon Kindle 6-Inch 16GB E-Reader is smaller and lighter than the Colorsoft Kids. It features a 6.21-inch screen, making it more portable for smaller hands. This device uses a black-and-white display, so you lose the color visuals that define the Colorsoft Kids. It weighs only 5.57 ounces, which is significantly less than the color model. It lacks the adjustable warm light found in the Colorsoft. This option is best for readers who prioritize battery life and portability over color graphics. It is a simpler, text-focused device that removes the distraction of color while keeping the same 16GB storage capacity for your library.
Amazon Kindle Colorsoft 7" 16GB
The Amazon Kindle Colorsoft 7-Inch 16GB provides a larger 6.96-inch screen compared to the smaller Kids model. It uses the same Colorsoft display technology, offering vibrant colors for comics and graphic novels. This device is designed for adults, lacking the specific parental controls and kid-proof guarantee of the original. It weighs 7.52 ounces, which is slightly heavier than the Kids version. It includes adjustable warm light and a glare-free display. If you want the color reading experience without the child-specific restrictions, this is the direct upgrade. It trades the durable, worry-free design for a larger, more immersive reading surface suitable for all ages.
Amazon Kindle Scribe 10.2" 16GB (Like-New)
The Amazon Kindle Scribe 10.2-Inch 16GB features a much larger 10.2-inch screen, ideal for detailed note-taking and reading. It includes a Premium Pen for writing directly on the display, a feature absent in the Kindle Colorsoft Kids. This device is heavier at 15.3 ounces and larger, making it less portable for young children. It lacks the waterproof design and the specific parental controls of the Kids model. The Scribe is built for productivity and study rather than casual reading. It is best for students or professionals who need to annotate documents. You give up the compact, kid-friendly form factor for a powerful tool that combines reading and writing capabilities.
Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 6.8" 16 GB
The Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 6.8-Inch 16GB offers a larger 6.85-inch screen than the standard Kindle, but it remains black-and-white. It lacks the color display of the Colorsoft Kids, which is its main differentiator. The Paperwhite is known for excellent battery life and eye comfort. It weighs 7.2 ounces, similar to the Kids model. It includes adjustable warm light and is waterproof, sharing that durability with the original. However, it does not have the kid-proof guarantee or the specialized parental dashboard. This device is ideal for readers who want a larger, comfortable screen for text-heavy books and do not need color illustrations or child-specific management features.
Amazon Kindle 6-Inch 16 GB (Refurbished)
The Amazon Kindle 6-Inch 16GB Refurbished is a pre-owned version of the standard black-and-white Kindle. It shares the same 6.21-inch screen and 5.57-ounce weight as the new model. It lacks the color display, adjustable warm light, and waterproof design of the Kindle Colorsoft Kids. It is a distraction-free device focused on text reading. This option is suitable for readers on a budget who do not need color graphics. It provides the same 16GB storage capacity. You sacrifice the premium features like color and water resistance for a lower cost entry point. It is a reliable, lightweight choice for those who primarily read novels and do not require the enhanced display of the Colorsoft.
