How Each Alternative Compares
Kobo Libra Colour 7" E-Reader
This Kobo model shares the same 7-inch color E Ink screen and waterproof build as the original. The key difference lies in the physical design. It features a thicker chassis at 0.33 inches compared to the original's 0.13 inches. This added depth accommodates audiobook playback and dark mode support, which the base model lacks. You get the same vibrant visuals for comics and graphic novels. However, the device is bulkier to hold. It remains an excellent choice if you want color reading with enhanced audio features and a more substantial feel.
Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 7-Inch 16GB
The Amazon Kindle Paperwhite offers a 7-inch display similar to the Kobo Libra Colour. It is also waterproof, making it suitable for bath or poolside reading. The main trade-off is the display technology. This device uses a black-and-white screen, so you will not see color in comics or illustrations. It provides 16GB of storage for your library. The device is slightly heavier at 7.44 ounces and thicker at 0.31 inches. It prioritizes battery endurance and text clarity over color graphics. Choose this if you read mostly novels and want a larger screen without the color feature.
Kobo Clara BW 6-Inch Waterproof E-Reader
The Kobo Clara BW moves to a smaller 6-inch screen while keeping the waterproof rating. It sacrifices color entirely for a black-and-white E Ink display. The device is more compact, measuring 4.39 inches wide and weighing 6.14 ounces. It includes 16GB of storage and supports audiobooks via Bluetooth. You lose the large canvas needed for detailed graphic novels. This model suits readers who prefer a lighter, more portable device for text-based books. It offers the same Kobo ecosystem but in a form factor that is easier to hold for extended periods.
Kobo Libra Colour 7" Color E-Reader
This option is identical to the original Kobo Libra Colour in specifications. It features the same 7-inch color E Ink display and waterproof construction. The primary difference is the color of the casing, which is white instead of black. The dimensions and weight remain unchanged at 7.05 ounces. You get the same physical buttons and reading experience. This choice is for readers who simply prefer a white aesthetic for their e-reader. It delivers the exact same color performance and durability as the black model, with no functional differences between the two.
Kobo Clara Colour 6-Inch Color E-Reader
The Kobo Clara Colour reduces the screen size to 6 inches while retaining color E Ink technology. It is also waterproof and includes 16GB of storage. The device is lighter at 6.14 ounces and has a thicker profile at 0.36 inches. You gain portability but lose the larger viewing area of the 7-inch model. It supports audiobooks and dark mode. This e-reader is ideal for users who want color graphics for comics but prefer a smaller, more compact device. It offers a similar color experience in a more manageable size.
Nook GlowLight 4 Plus 7.8-Inch E-Reader
The Nook GlowLight 4 Plus offers a significantly larger 7.8-inch screen compared to the 7-inch Kobo. It is also waterproof and includes 32GB of storage. The device is wider at 5.8 inches and thicker at 0.31 inches. It lacks color E Ink, displaying content in black and white. You gain more screen real estate for text and images, along with physical buttons. The trade-off is the absence of color graphics.
