The PocketBook InkPad 4 7.8-Inch E-Reader is a solid choice for readers who want a large, glare-free E-Ink Carta 1200 display and built-in audio support. Its waterproof IPX8 rating and adjustable SMARTlight frontlight make it durable and comfortable for long sessions. You also get Bluetooth connectivity and Text-to-Speech features for audiobooks. However, you might prefer a different screen size, a color display, or physical buttons for navigation. Some readers prioritize portability over the 7.8-inch screen, while others want color graphics for comics and magazines.
This list of 6 alternatives covers devices that share key specs with the InkPad 4, such as waterproofing, audio support, and E-Ink technology. You will find options with smaller 6-inch screens for better portability, as well as color E-Ink Kaleido 3 displays for visual content. The selected models overlap with the original in durability and connectivity, ensuring you can compare them based on your specific needs. Whether you need a compact device or a color reader, these alternatives provide similar core functionalities with different trade-offs in size and display type.
How alternatives compare to InkPad 4
PocketBook Era Color 7-Inch E-Reader
The PocketBook Era Color 7-Inch E-Reader swaps the monochrome Carta 1200 screen for an E Ink Kaleido 3 display. You gain the ability to view color images and comics, which the InkPad 4 cannot do. The screen is slightly smaller at 7 inches, reducing the reading area. You keep the waterproof IPX8 rating and Bluetooth connectivity for audiobooks. Storage increases to 32GB, offering more room for files. If you need color media but still want a PocketBook interface with audio support, this model fits. You give up the larger 7.8-inch canvas of the InkPad 4 for a more compact 7-inch form factor.
PocketBook InkPad Color 3 7.8-Inch Color E-Reader
The PocketBook InkPad Color 3 7.8-Inch E-Reader matches the InkPad 4 in screen size and color. It uses a color display for comics and magazines. You retain the 7.8-inch footprint and waterproof IPX8 protection. The device also includes Bluetooth and a built-in speaker for audiobooks. Storage is 32GB, which is double that of the InkPad 4. You get a larger screen than the 7-inch color options but keep the same dimensions as the original. This choice suits readers who want color content without shrinking the display size. You sacrifice the newer Carta 1200 panel for the color capability.
PocketBook Verse Pro 6-Inch E-Reader
The PocketBook Verse Pro 6-Inch E-Reader reduces the screen size from 7.8 inches to 6 inches. You gain a significantly lighter and smaller device that is easier to hold for long periods. It maintains the waterproof IPX8 rating and Bluetooth connectivity for audiobooks. The display uses E Ink Carta with HD resolution. Storage is 16GB. You lose the larger reading area and the anti-scratch protection feature found on the InkPad 4. This model is best for readers who prioritize portability and water resistance over screen real estate. It is a compact alternative for on-the-go reading.
PocketBook Verse Pro 6" Waterproof E-Reader
The PocketBook Verse Pro 6-Inch Waterproof E-Reader offers the same 6-inch E Ink Carta display as the other Verse Pro model. You get a compact, waterproof device with Bluetooth and audiobook support. The screen is smaller than the InkPad 4, but the device is lighter and easier to carry. You keep the IPX8 water resistance rating. Storage is 16GB. You give up the larger 7.8-inch screen and the anti-scratch coating of the InkPad 4. This option is ideal for readers who want a durable, portable e-reader with audio features. It is a smaller, lighter choice for travel.
Kobo Libra Colour 7" Color E-Reader
The Kobo Libra Colour 7-Inch E-Reader introduces physical page-turn buttons, which the touchscreen-only InkPad 4 lacks. You get a 7-inch color E Ink display for comics and images. The device is waterproof and includes Bluetooth for audiobooks. It is lighter than the InkPad 4, weighing 7.05 ounces. You lose the larger 7.8-inch screen and the SMARTlight adjustable color temperature feature. The Kobo offers tactile navigation and color visuals. This model suits readers who want physical buttons and color content in a compact, waterproof package. You trade screen size and frontlight adjustability for button controls.
Kobo Libra Colour 7-Inch E-Reader
The Kobo Libra Colour 7-Inch E-Reader provides a 7-inch color display and physical page-turn buttons. You get waterproof protection and Bluetooth support for audiobooks. The device is lightweight at 7.05 ounces. It includes Dark Mode for reading in low light. You give up the 7.8-inch screen size and the SMARTlight frontlight of the InkPad 4. The Kobo offers tactile controls and color visuals. This choice is for readers who value physical buttons and color content. It is a compact, durable alternative for those who prefer tactile navigation over a larger touchscreen interface.
